Sound

When filming my documentary I recorded the sound separately with a Lavalier microphone as my iPhone XR microphone did not pick up sound very well. This meant I would have to sync up the separate sound I recorded with the footage which I would have to mute. I decided to edit the sound on Logic Pro and DeNoise and level the volume as best as I could.

3D Camera + Nulls

To create my desired 3D effect I started off by making all my layers 3D by also adding several nulls to the composition and auto-tracking them.

I had to make the text bubbles from scratch and thus I used a rounded rectangle with a gradient going from light blue to white - mimicking the typical iMessage text bubbles.

Lastly, I was able to track the messages by parenting them to the multiple 3D-tracked nulls.

Colour grading

My documentary opening sequence celebrates the life of Alfie Deacon as he overcomes his struggles with anorexia nervousa. To reflect this, I wanted to portray this aesthetically by playing around with the colouring by giving the composition a brighter and more saturated look.
